Penn Badgley Dishes on Breakup With Blake Lively: "I Did Not Send a Wedding Gift"
Around the time their Gossip Girl counterparts--Serena van der Woodsen and Dan Humprey--ended their relationship, Penn and Blake soon called it quits as well, with reps for the couple confirming their split in 2010.
Now that both have moved on, with Blake marrying Ryan Reynolds last year, and Penn in a relationship with Zoe Kravitz, the 26-year-old actor is dishing on his former relationship with Blake in an interview with Elle.
When asked if it was difficult to work with Blake after her wedding, Penn said, "No we were ultimately professional."
As for what he learned from their relationship, Penn said, "I don't know if I can distill it into a sentence, or even articulate it."
"We were very much caught up in the show, which itself was a six-year endurance test. Our relationship was a part of that and helped us through it. I mean, like anything valuable, it was good and it was bad and it was a learning experience."
An experience that didn't result in a lavish wedding gift, however.
When asked if he sent a gift to Ryan and Blake on their big day he said, "No, I didn't."
Meanwhile, Penn's relationship with Zoe seems to be going just fine, with the thesp even hanging out with her dad Lenny Kravitz from time to time.
"We get along, we talk music," Penn went on. "He took me to Harlem to see this little jazz show in the back of a church. It was just shitty fluorescent lights and a small stage piano, but this band tore it up."
Penn also said he's written a song for Zoe, referring to it as "a sprawling meditation on love," and revealed they deal with being apart from each other when traveling for work by being honest.
"There's definitely no secret. I'd say honesty is always the best policy," Penn said. "There are always a lot of arguments--but even if honesty starts some, it avoids bigger ones."
Penn and Zoe kicked off their romance in 2011.
