The star dishes on how he gained 20 pounds and tried to get "as big as Taylor Lautner" for his role as Kitai in his latest movie

For Jaden Smith's starring role in After Earth, he had to bulk up big time and do some serious training to play Kitai, who's trying to survive on post-apocalyptic Earth.

"Training was really just a lot of building size. I tried to get as big as Taylor Lautner in New Moon," Jaden explains. "I gained like 20 pounds and grew 4 inches."

To add lean muscle to his frame, Jaden stuck to a diet of oatmeal, chicken, quinoa, kale and protein shakes.

Jaden worked with his trainer John Koyama to master the stunts and battle scenes 5 days a week for more than 4 months before he began filming.

"We had to learn how to kill people in this movie," Jaden explained, adding that he trained with his dad and costar Will Smith as well. "It was more weapons." Hit the clip to see Jaden demonstrate some of the moves he mastered and check out After Earth when it hits theaters on May 31!
