'The Vampire Diaries' and Other Awkward Sets Where Ex-Couples Worked Together
The former lovebirds, who kicked off production on the Vampire Diaries season five Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, have some company when to comes to their fellow actor ex-couples and awkward sets.
They could even ask these former on-and-off screen lovers for some advice...
Dexter: It was odd enough to fans when Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter, who play brother and sister Dexter and Deborah Morgan on the show, tied the knot in December 2008. When the duo filed for divorce in 2010 and Dexter was still going strong, it looked like their work environment was going to get a bit uncomfortable.
Following their split though, Michael and Jennifer were nothing but professionals, with Jennifer telling E! News, "he is and always will be one of my best friends in the world. And just because the marriage ended doesn't mean the love isn't still there."
"We take very good care of each other and our cast, we always have, and I'm just really lucky."
Vampire Diaries: Nina and Ian aren't the only actors on the show who called it quits and then had to face each other on set. Former lovers Candice Accola and Zach Roerig had the same issue after they started dating in 2011, broke up in May 2012, and both returned for season four of the show.
Candice has since moved on with The Fray guitarist Joe King, who popped the question to the starlet in Italy in May.
Bad Teacher: After dating for four years and breaking up, exes Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake teamed up for the comedy flick Bad Teacher and even had a pseudo-sex scene together.
Telling Us Weekly that working with Justin wasn't awkward at all, Cameron added, "Justin and I have always had a good laugh together, and to make a movie where we get to have a laugh together, and there really was no one else who was more perfect for this part."
Heroes: Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia may have had a 12-year age gap, but that didn't stop the then 19-year-old from dating her 31-year-old co-star. Following their break-up, there were unconfirmed reports that Hayden tried to get Milo kicked off of the show, but Hayden told OK! Magazine post-split, "Milo and I are very close. We have enjoyed and continue to enjoy working together."
Gossip Girl: Blake Lively and Penn Badgley started dating in the fall of 2007 and split three years later in the fall of 2010. Unfortunately, their show, Gossip Girl, was still shooting.
While Blake stayed mum on what it was like to work with Penn on set post-break up, she told Glamour that their split was anything but "dramatic."
"Every relationship you have, you're learning and growing and taking something from that," Blake told the mag. "So for me, it's never been too dramatic of a thing when something ends."
Once the show was over, Blake went on to marry Ryan Reynolds in September 2012.
Penn didn't send them a wedding gift.
