How the Vampire Diaries star maintains his muscular physique, that's another story.
Ian dished to Web MD about his passion for staying healthy and revealed exactly what he does to stay in such great shape.
"My health's wildly important to me," Ian told the site. "I wouldn't have the stamina and energy for 80-hour work weeks without good health."
To stay in shape, Somerhalder enjoys speed walking, yoga, basketball-anything that keeps him away from the gym and gets him outside.
And when he needs to wind down, he reads and meditates.
As far as his diet, he chows down on fruits, veggies, lean meats and healthy whole grains, like quinoa, according to the site.
And Ian even offered up a few tips for fans.
Ian recommends going for a 1-, 2-, or 3-mile run if you're stressed.
"Push your body, and your body will produce the chemicals that make you feel better," he said.
The 34-year-old activist also says that it's important to be focused when trying to improve your health, adding, "You've got to be really committed to it. You've got to plan for it. And you've got to make it a habit. You're going to get a lot more out of your brain and your body if you take care of both."
And thinking positively while doing so is also important.
"You've got to be really careful about what's going on in that noggin of yours," Ian continued. "Keep it full of really positive stuff and that's what you manifest in your life. I know it sounds clichéd, but it's true, man, and I'm glad I learned that."
