There are more Cimorelli sisters than Kardashians! The vocal sextet gained recognition after posting cover videos on YouTube. Here are the 5 things you have to know about them now!
It's a family affair!
Cimorelli is a singing group that is made up of six sisters, Christina, Katherine, Lisa, Amy, Lauren and Dani. (There are more of them than there are Kardashian girls!) They got recognition for posting a capella covers of hit songs like "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele, "As Long As You Love Me" by Justin Bieber and "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus on YouTube.
We chatted with Katherine recently while Cimorelli was on tour, and here are 5 things we think you have to know about the group!
5: It was oldest sister Christina's idea to form a group. "She wanted to do something with her friends or on her own, but my mom said, 'Why don't you do something with your sisters? You have all these sisters and you all love music,'" Katherine said. "In 2007, we started playing as a band with instruments and toured around Northern California."
4: Which YouTube cover was most difficult? "It was probably '22' by Taylor Swift," Katherine shared. "That one we filmed maybe like 10 to 12 hours, it was a crazy day. We had so many shots we wanted to get that we spent so much time [filming] and so much time editing."
3: The girls recently put out their first single, "Made in America." Katherine explained, "It was originally a different concept. It was about coming to America from another country and making it in America. But we wanted to change it to being born and raised in America and being proud of this country. It was telling our story in a way and ended up being the perfect opening single."
2: Since there are six individuals in the group (and they're sisters!), we have to imagine that they all have different taste in music. "As a group, we're really inspired by other groups like 'N Sync, Backstreet Boys, Jackson 5, The Beach Boys," said Katherine. "Some of us listen to R&B, indie, bubblegum pop, but the one kind of music we do all listen to is country."
1: You can expect a full album from Cimorelli very soon. "Ever since 'Made in America,' which we wrote in March, it really inspired us to a certain sound. We've been writing a ton of songs for our album and we've been working on it for three years. Sometime in 2013, our album will be out. Full length and all originals!"
