Katy Perry's new album 'Prism' seems to be her most personal album ever, with the star herself opening up about one song she wrote during a very dark time and how there are some themes that run throughout the album. Katy Perry's upcoming album 'Prism' contains a lot of personal stuff.

The singer recently opened up about her song "By the Grace of God," saying that she wrote it about a time where she found herself lying on the bathroom floor, wondering if she even wanted to live anymore.

"You don't have to really read between the lines, there is a lot of heavy material there," she revealed.

Another thing Katy didn't shy away from? Love.

While she does thank boyfriend John Mayer in her album notes, Katy reveals that she had to find another kind of love first.

"What I need is self-love first and foremost and I think everything follows in such a fantastic way," she explained.

As for the album title 'Prism,' the concept is the same.

Watch the video above to hear Katy talk about the deeper meaning behind the album and how she's learned to love herself.
