The days of McKinley High are officially coming to an end.
Glee creator Ryan Murphy confirmed the Fox musical dramedy would end after the show's next season, revealing the news at a Paley Center event honoring FX Networks Wednesday night, according to TV Line.
In the wake of Cory Monteith's death, however, how the show will end in its sixth season is still up in the air.
"The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn's story," Ryan said. "I always knew that, I always knew how it would end. I knew what the last shot was – he was in it. I knew what the last line was – she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we're figuring that out now.
"I have a good idea," Ryan continued. "I'm going to tell the studio and the network [in a week] how after Cory's unfortunate passing we can end the show that I think is very satisfactory. And kind of in his honor, which I love."
Following news of Ryan's announcement, Glee star Amber Riley hit the Arsenio Hall Show Thursday, sharing her sentiments about the show's end and the tribute episode that honored Cory.
"It's been a couple of years and it's been a really good run," Amber said. "Glee's been an amazing blessing in my life, and to so many other people."
"I'm sure everybody can attest to a story, or a character they love, or something that really touched their heart so I was really blessed to be a part of that for so many years, she continued.
When asked if she wanted to share anything about her late co-star, Amber talked about Glee's tribute episode instead, saying, "I'm so proud of my classmates, I'm proud of Ryan, Ian and Brad, they wrote that episode, and they put so much heart in it.
"It was really for the fans," she continued. "That's what the episode was really for, for the fans to be able to say goodbye, and I consider all of us one big family and they got to say goodbye and it was a beautiful episode. So, it's something we're always gonna have and I'll be able to go back and watch that."
