The 18-year-old iCarly star, who recently released his new cookbook, "KewlBites: 100 Nutritious, Delicious, and Family-Friendly Dishes," gave us the scoop on what inspired it and how he put together the recipes inside.
"I'm so excited that my very first cookbook has just been released," Reed told us. "I was really inspired to create a tangible piece of my website Kewlbites.com. It has readers all around the world. We're really interested in finding tools and strategies that I share on line for how to find the healthiest and 'kewlest' you."
Reed said he was motivated to launch the site several years ago when he was overweight.
"Knowing that I had a family history of diabetes and heart disease, I decided to get into the kitchen," he continued. "I'm a major food lover, so I turned it into a science lab where I could experiment and swap for things like apple pie minus the butter or chicken nuggets without deep frying them so I could have all the food I crave but stay on track."
Using his new healthy cooking strategy, Reed soon lost 15 pounds.
As for the advice he has for fans regarding changing their diets, Reed said, "I always tell people when you want to get into the kitchen, it's one of the most rewarding and cathartic experiences so take it one bite at a time."
"Set mini goals, maybe you're going to start making breakfast for yourself," he added.
The cookbook contains a vast collection of comfort food recipes that Reed "lightened up" to make healthy, like vegetable dumplings with lemongrass dipping sauce, turkey meatballs with marinara sauce, and moo shoo chicken wraps.
