Why did Nick Jonas want to quit the Jonas Brothers? Kevin, Nick and Joe Jonas decided to breakup after Nick voiced concerns about the band's music. Read why they decided to make their family a priority. The Jonas Brothers spilled the beans about their breakup on GMA yesterday, but a new People magazine interview really goes inside the decision to split.

Nick was the one who wanted to quit--but why?

Nick explained to People that he went "into a bit of trance," adding, "You prep a million ways...there was sort of a shut-off that happened. It took some time, about 24 hours or so, before we could really talk about it."

The news that Nick wanted out of the Jonas Brothers came as a shock to Joe and Kevin, with Joe saying, "Kevin and I thought we were going into a meeting about releasing some of the music we'd been working on."

Once the initial shock was over, there was definitely a ton of emotion involved, as Nick explained, "There were tears and yelling from everybody."

Kevin said, "It was the most real, the most intense conversation that we've had in our lives together."

In the end, a breakup was the fix, as Nick explained family was the main priority.

Kevin added, "We're choosing our family because it was becoming toxic."

On Kev's end, he said, "I wasn't contributing to the music the way I should have."

We're not pointing any fingers, but sounds like Kevin's heart wasn't in it and Nick couldn't continue just going through the motions, so to speak.
