In a new interview, the Hunger Games star reveals she suffered from social anxiety disorder growing up.
"When my mother talks about my childhood, she always says there was a light within me. When I went to school, this light went out," she explained to Madame Figaro, a French magazine. "We never knew what it was, a kind of social anxiety. I went to see a shrink, nothing worked."
It wasn't until Jen started acting that she was able to overcome her social anxiety.
"One day, I begged my parents to take me to a casting," she says. "We went off to New York and that's where I started acting. On stage, my mother saw the change taking place in me. She saw my anxieties disappeared."
How cool is it that her acting talents helped her overcome her anxiety issues?
Jen will walk the carpet in front of tons of fans tonight in LA at the Catching Fire premiere, which hits theaters Nov. 22.
