Katy Perry opened the American Music Awards last night with her performance of her new song "Unconditionally," but the Geisha-inspired getup and stage theme sparked 2013 American Music Awards - ShowKaty Perry opened the American Music Awards last night with a performance of her new song "Unconditionally."

The pop star performed in a Geisha-style getup and the stage and props followed the same theme.

"Leave it to Katy Perry to perform the most racially insensitive opening act," one user wrote. "Culture is not a costume, folks!" another chimed in.
