The 17-year-old "Royals" singer explains why she said Nicki and Drake's music was "completely irrelevant" and says she has "love and admiration" for both rappers LordeLorde made headlines yesterday when she called Nicki Minaj and Drake's music as "completely irrelevant."

"Around the middle of last year I started listening to rap, like Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well pop singers such as Lana del Rey," she said. "They all sing about opulence, stuff that didn't relate to me--or anyone that I knew."

"I began thinking, 'How are we listening to this? It's completely irrelevant.' I basically just wrote what we were all thinking,"

The 17-year-old "Royals" singer is now clarifying her comments via Twitter, saying she wasn't trying to insult the rappers.

"I have nothing but love and admiration for both Nicki and Drake (have said this x1000)," she first Tweeted.

"Just because their songs aren't my reality (being 17 and from Auckland) doesn't mean I don't admire their musicianship and careers!" she concluded.

Do you think Lorde's quotes were misinterpreted or is she trying to save face?
