One Direction may have been booed at the NRJ Awards, but Katy Perry jumped to defend them, dedicating one of her awards to the boy band. One Direction booed at NRJ Awards
One Direction were booed at the NRJ Awards?

How is this even possible?

Sadly, working your butt off to be the biggest boy band on the planet wasn't enough to impress the audience at the awards held in Cannes, France.

When the guys went to accept their two awards, the audience erupted in boos.

1D picked up NRJ awards for Best International Group and Video of the Year for "Best Song Ever."

While Twitter was flooded with 1D support, the guys got a little help from a fellow celeb at the event--Katy Perry, who picked up two awards, gave a little shout out to the guys.

Katy dedicated her Best International Female Artist award to Louis, Liam, Harry, Zayn and Niall, saying in her acceptance speech: "I would like to thank my French Katycats, I love you. I would also like to dedicate this award to One Direction. Without you, I wouldn't be here. Thanks!"

Score another big name in their corner--you may recall Lady Gaga offered One Direction a pep talk backstage at the MTV VMAs after they were booed.
