Katy Perry is opening up about her new CD and reveals that she really saw it going in a different direction, but it actually turned out Katy Perry's new album 'Prism' is definitely a departure from her traditional bubblegum pop style.

It's a more mature record with some pretty intense emotions running through the songs, but that's just a reflection of what Katy was going through as a person.

"You don't have to really read between the lines, there is a lot of heavy material there," she said about one particular song "By the Grace of God."

"I can only write autobiographically, I put all the evidence in the music," she said in another interview.

Fortunately, after a devastating divorce from Russell Brand, Katy found love again, with fellow musician John Mayer, which is also reflected on the album.

Check out the interview above to hear Katy open up about how her style evolved as a result of her experiences.
