Zayn Malik is reportedly trying to arrange a Journey reunion for his wedding to Perrie Edwards. Will Journey singer Steve Perry be on board for the gig?
Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards' wedding plan may include a little throwback 80s action.
No, we're not talking about Perrie rocking an 80s inspired dress or Zayn looking all Miami Vice on their big day (not that he couldn't pull it off)...
It seems Perrie has a very specific band in mind to play their wedding gig--Journey!
The only problem is, she is looking for the original band with lead singer Steve Perry, to play "Don't Stop Believin'" for their first dance.
That may be an issue since he's no longer with the band, but never fear--Zayn is on the job!
If anyone can do it, it's Zayn, right?
A source tells The Sun (via Daily Mail) "Zayn is hopeful Journey will be there in some guise. Neal Schon (the guitarist) has made it clear through his channels he is up for it. He has his touring band who can play."
The insider added, "But he knows Steve was the voice of that hit record (Don't Stop Believin'), and no one on earth really sounds like him."
Additionally, the source noted, "If Steve and Neal were to reunite, it would be a massive affair and a payday. It's a feat but Zayn's reach across the music industry is huge."
Zayn told Ryan Seacrest earlier this year that Perrie had her heart set on the musical reunion, explaining, "I know my missus wants the lead singer from Journey. We'll see what we can do about that.'
Do you think a Journey reunion will happen?
Given that Steve Perry said in a 2001 VH1 Behind the Music special that he "never really felt like he was a part of the band," it sounds like a reunion is a tall order.
We have a backup plan, however--One Direction can sing the signature Journey tune!
