The 28-year-old actress revealed that she used to struggle with self-harming issues while in high school.
"I started self-harming when I was a junior," Troian says. "I would withhold food or withhold going out with my friends, based on how well I did that day in school....I didn't know what was right and what was wrong, so I think I created this bizarre system of checks and balances to create order in my world. But it really backfired."
Although she's recovered now, the starlet admits she sometimes gets insecure even on her own hit ABC Family show.
"Sometimes I feel like I'm trying too hard, like I don't belong. I just look around at Lucy [Hale], Shay [Mitchell], and Ashley [Benson] and I'm just like, 'Why am I on this show?' Sometimes I've felt like a fraud. Like, I'm not like these other girls -- I don't dress like that and don't know how to do my hair," she explains.
Troian also wants fans to know that she and castmates are far from perfect in real life, despite their professional glam squads.
"I've heard fans say I'm perfect on the show and I want to tell them that I've been through two hairs of hair and makeup," she explains. "Don't hold yourself up to that!"
In fact, Ashley Benson recently criticzed a heavily-airbrushed PLL campaign as "ridiculous" for promoting false standards of beauty and Lucy Hale admits she previously struggled with an eating disorder.
We love how honest these actresses are with their fans!
