Vanessa Hudgens decided to give it a whirl.
Counting to three, the 25-year-old Spring Breakers star stepped out into the freezing streets of Chicago and threw a cup of hot water in the air...which turned into snow.
"Science y'all #polarvortex," Vanessa wrote on Instagram in a caption alongside the video.
To put just how cold it is in Chicago into perspective this week, it was -15 degrees at 7 a.m. Monday, making it the coldest day in the city ever recorded on that day.
The "polar vortex" the actress mentioned is causing a huge freeze-out in two dozen states across the U.S. at the moment.
According to CNN, it's a "circulation of strong, upper-level winds that normally surround the northern pole." The winds contain bitter cold air which causes a cold snap when it is released.
Vanessa isn't the only one who's tried out the hot water in freezing air experiment though.
BuzzFeed put together a list of Tweeters who tried the science experiment and ended up burning themselves because of where they threw the boiling water.
Apparently, when you throw boiling water in the air during a cold snap, there's a chance it can blow back on you before it freezes all the way, and burn you.
Be careful out there!
