In a plane crash that left 77 people dead, one man lived to tell the tale.

The lone survivor of the crash, who is a soldier, suffered head injuries and was treated at a nearby military hospital before he was transported to a military facility in Algiers, according to Yahoo.

The crash occurred Tuesday while the plane was on its way to Constantine, Algeria from Tamanrraset and slammed into a mountain; the plane was later discovered in pieces on Mount Fortas, 30 miles southeast of its destination.

Civil defense officials at the site said the military aircraft, filled with soldiers and their families, broke into three parts when it crashed.

By early Tuesday evening, 76 of the bodies had been recovered, including the remains of four women.

The military cited poor weather for the crash, saying in a statement that "Unfavorable weather conditions and storms accompanied by snow in the region were behind the crash."

So far, the identity of the survivor has not been released.
