Most surprising show opener ever? Rock legend Bruce Springsteen kicked off his recent Auckland, New Zealand concert with a banger, performing an acoustic version of Lorde's "Royals".

The Boss' entire "Royals" performance was pretty interesting, to say the least. He tweaked the song's original lyrics slightly, singing "you can call me king bee" instead of "queen bee", and sounded a bit off beat (but we think that was done for dramatic-musical purposes).

With no disrespect to the all-American rocker, we totally prefer Lorde's version of her tune. We SO give him an "A" for effort, though. Singing a local's song was a pretty cool way to kick-off his show there. Watch him sing "Royals" below.

Bruce isn't the only one covering other artists' songs while on tour. Miley Cyrus recently performed Outkast's "Hey Ya" and Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" on her Bangerz tour.
