As Lucy Hale pursues a career in country music, Carrie Underwood is offering her some sage advice.

"Just be strong," the singer told MTV News at the TIME 100 Carpet in New York. "Country music is definitely in need of more really strong females."

The Pretty Little Liars star, whose debut country album Road Between hit shelves today, talked to the network about how her experience has been thus far, saying she's been wanting to tell her story for years and felt like it was the perfect opportunity to do so.

"A lot of people know me as Aria from 'PLL,' but a lot of people don't know Lucy," Hale told MTV News. "They don't know my story, and the things that I've been through, and what I stand for. I think after listening to the album, they'll get a clear idea of who Lucy Hale is as a human being."

In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, Lucy said her favorite song on the album is "Nervous Girls," which brought her to tears when she heard it for the first time.

"It was one we were sent last minute...It was like 2 a.m. and I heard this song and I just started crying. I was like, 'You have to let them let me sing this song.' I think it was on hold for someone else. And then I finally got to sing it."

In honor of her debut album's release, friends sent the starlet bouquets of flowers. "Thank u to the special people in my life for these gorgeous flowers. Surrounded by such positive lights in my life," she wrote on Instagram, showing off the bountiful bouquets.
