The 17-year-old "Shake It Up!" actress will star in the upcoming Lifetime flick based on the late singer's life, which is tentatively titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, according to Variety.

Aaliyah, born Dana Haughton, was just 22 when she died in a plane crash in 2001 in the Bahamas, along with the pilot and members of her video crew.

Zendaya not only has the look for the part, but she also has the voice, in addition to her acting chops. The Dancing With the Stars alum released her debut self-titled album last year, with the first single, Replay, selling more than 1 million copies.

"She's been an inspiration and influence in my whole career, her talent still shines brighter (than) ever, all I wanna do is honor her," the Disney star tweeted about being cast in the TV movie. "Show how much she accomplished in only 22 years....she's beautiful inside and there will never be another Aaliyah, I just hope to share her beautiful story, and make her proud up in heaven #babygirl #forever #OneInAMillion."

"I'm just a 17 year old girl who got cast to play one of her biggest inspirations #positive," she continued.
