One Direction fans mourned the loss of one of their fandom members over the weekend, as Niall Horan paid tribute Leah Hession, who lost her battle with a rare form of kidney cancer and died at just six years old. We're so saddened by her loss.

Leah did get to meet Niall earlier this year and pose with the 1D star in pictures, so he took to Twitter to share a sweet tribute for the brave little girl. He tweeted: "RIP Leah, it was an honour to have met you! Very brave young lady! Thoughts are with Leah's family at this time!"

After Niall shared the message and a pic from their meeting in Dublin, the outpouring of condolences from fans was overwhelming, as the hashtag #RIPLeah took over. Leah's meetup with Niall happened after her mom, dad and the charity Aoibheann's Pink Tie arranged for her to go to the Where We Are show in Croke Park. The charity covered all expenses and Niall even visited with Lea for a special surprise.

Her mom, Lorraine, told Irish Mirror at the time, "I didn't know about it. We were in the room a few minutes and then Niall walked in. He was on his own and didn't have security or an entourage. He must have spent five minutes with us and he 100% made the effort with Leah. He was so kind and generous and hugged her and signed all of her memorabilia. Leah keeps asking was it a dream. This has given us precious memories that will be with us for ever."

RIP, Leah.
