Were Kim Kardashian and Her Sisters Texting During the VMAs Ferguson Tribute?

Kim Kardashian and her two sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner all attended the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night and they had laser focus when it came to hitting their marks on the carpet and posing for the camera.

What they didn't seem totally focused on, however, was the moment of silence for Michael Brown and the discussion of the resulting social unrest in Ferguson, Mo.

During the show, the cameras cut to the Kardashian crew and it appeared that they were texting (or looking at the selfies they had snapped?) during the tribute - and Twitter reacted in a BIG way.

First, pictures started popping up, which were supposedly live from the audience cam. We're still really hoping those shots were taken earlier in the show and dubbed in by an editor who just had extremely unfortunate timing, but here they are:
As expected, the Twitterverse was not impressed: Do you guys think it was an editing mistake or do you think the girls were really on their phones during the tribute and moment of silence?
