We can't imagine a world without Katy Perry, but in a revealing new interview, the singer got candid about her struggle with depression and admits that she did contemplate taking her own life after her split with Russell Brand.
Fortunately, she decided to channel her feelings and use them to make music. Her song "By the Grace of God" was written about this dark time in her life.
"Sometimes you can be blinded by your extreme emotions. I definitely was looking for answers...and during that time I wrote that song...and yeah, I was depressed and I was sad and there were thoughts, but there were never actions, thankfully," she told the Australian show The Project.
Katy had actually opened up about the inspiration for the song in an interview with Billboard in September of last year, telling them, "That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, 'Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?'"
She went on to explain that all of her songs are "real life moments" and that she can't write anything unless it's autobiographical. "I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs," she said.
We're so glad Katy was able to get past that tough time and we give her a ton of credit for being so candid about everything she went through.
