Kanye West has come under fire for the comments he made about Beck winning the Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. Did he really diss Beck when he said he wasn't a "real artist?"

TMZ.com caught up with Kanye and Kim Kardashian when they arrived in New York City earlier today and he was asked about his comments. Kanye's response? "No, I wasn't saying Beck; I said the Grammys. Beck knows that Beyonce should have won - you know that."

He was also asked if he's ever heard of Beck before the Grammys, and responded, "Come on, man. I love Beck!," adding, "but he ain't have the album of the year."

The statement in question? Kanye told E! after the Grammys: "I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should've given his award to Beyonce."

Diss or not, Beck is taking it all in stride, telling Us Weekly at the Universal Music Group after party: "I was just so excited he was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody. How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?"

Kanye stopped short of ranting on stage when Beck accepted the award, but even Beck admitted he was surprised by the win, saying, "I thought she was going to win. Come on, she's Beyonce!"

Bottom line, Beck still has respect for Kanye, saying, "You can't please everybody, man. I still love him and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does."
