"1996 in the house. That HARRIBLE 90s goatee took me an entire summer to grow," the Maroon 5 frontman captioned a blurry throwback shot he posted on Instagram for Flashback Friday, which showed him sporting an unkempt goatee and long hair parted down the middle as he smiled at the camera.
Adam didn't break the internet with this shot, but a ton of fans did freak out over it, with nearly 16,000 leaving comments like, "O dear i will never be able to unsee this," and then others, who simply wrote, "HAHAHAHA."
Back in 2010, Adam gave fans a taste of what he was like as a teen on MTV's "When I was 17," showing off photos of himself rocking a similar look. "When I was 17, I was gross," he admitted on the show. "My hair was long and really ratty and nappy. [I wore] huge, oversize flannels that didn't fit [and I had] a goatee. Like a bad version of Ethan Hawke in 'Reality Bites.' "
Around the time of Adam's photo, he had just started his music career, co-founded alternative rock band Kara's Flowers and was performing as the lead vocalist and guitarist. After they broke up, they eventually got back together in 2001 and changed their name to Maroon 5. Clearly, that worked out.
