Cinderella has come a long way! In the new live action of the classic Disney fairy tale, the heroine doesn't need any rescuing, according to Richard Madden who plays Prince Charming, and Lily James, who's the title character.

In fact, Richard says Cinderella would be A-OK on her own if he never met her in the movie. "I think Cinderella would fine without the prince," he explained to Cambio during AOL Build for Cinderella. "That's why I was interested in this. It was more of a challenge because I had to develop a male character that's worthy of Cinderella's affections, rather than that old fashioned view of a damsel in distress that needs a man to save her."

"It's not relevant and probably not something we should be telling little girls anymore," he shares. Excuse us while we swoon over this feminist prince! The Game of Thrones star also says the new Cinderella is an empowered woman who girls can look up to as a role model. "I wanted to do this project because it was about two people coming together and bringing out the best in each other."

We completely agree...your significant other should complement you, not complete you. Check out Lily and Richard's chemistry on the big screen in Cinderella, in theaters today.
