Sam Smith thought he was pulling a funny April Fools' Day joke, but not everyone's laughing after the 22-year-old openly gay singer took to Twitter this morning to try and fool fans by saying he's actually straight. Less than one later, he revealed that he was totally joking and adding a crying emoji for good measure. Although his prank tweet got favorited by more than 52,000 people, some followers didn't find it amusing and were upset he was joking about his sexuality. "This is the worst april fools joke you could have done," one person Tweeted. "This is why gays don't have rights," another user replied.

Considering Sam has been a long-term advocate for gay rights, we didn't find his joke offensive, but what do you think?
