When Taylor's video first dropped, a lot of fans realized that it mashed up with several of her new 1989 songs. As if that's not cool enough, one reporter at San Francisco PBS station KQED noticed it mashed up with Lana's "Summertime Sadness," too.
After watching it, we were a bit freaked out. The song so goes with the video, and totally gives us that creepy Wizard of Oz and Pink Floyd vibe. We all know Tay can amaze us, but who ever thought she could scare us? Funny!
There's actually an explanation for all of these mashups coming out of the woodwork. KQED says it's all just really sheer coincidence and something called apophenia, which is "the experience of perceiving patterns or connections in random or meaningless data." Basically, our minds focus on those instances that do sync up without giving that same attention to the moments that don't. Interesting, right?
