When Kim Kardashian hit the red carpet at the Met Gala last night, everyone was talking about her dramatic sheer dress.

Kim obviously looked stunning and while some thought Kim might have been inspired by the similar look her pal Beyonce wore to the same event in 2012, the reality star admitted that she was inspired by another singer's previous Met dress, but it wasn't Bey.

There was actually a cool historical connection for Kim's dress-spiration as she crafted her look based on the dress that Cher wore to the first ever Met Gala.

"Tonight's inspiration! Cher at the 1st ever Met Gala!" Kim captioned the photo above. "I just met her and told her this photo was my inspiration for my dress tonight! She is so beautiful! So happy I met her!"

She also shared this photo of herself with the pop icon.

Cher's dress from 1974 was designed by Bob Mackie while Kim's was designer Peter Dundas' first-ever creation for Roberto Cavalli. Talk about a timeless look!
