When it comes to the Kardashians, there's one celebrity who would rather not keep up with the über famous reality TV clan. In an interview with Australia's In Style magazine, 46-year-old Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts referenced the family when she offered her take on being an actress coping with the challenges of living in a celebrity-obsessed world.
"There's so much focus on celebrity these days," Naomi said. "We're in the Kardashian era and it's slightly scary." She continued, "But when you hear that there are ways to use [your celebrity status] purposefully, it makes you feel good about what you do. When it's related to matters that you're passionate about, it's easy to get involved when the invitation comes."
So, Naomi's stance does sound kind of like a thinly veiled shot at what is arguably TV's most popular family (love them or hate them). It could be taken that way, but since we're not looking for the start of another celebrity faceoff in the media, let's consider the more positive side of Naomi's comments.
Perhaps, she's simply explaining how she balances being a part of the superficial side of celebrity with supporting causes that are close to her heart. After all, she has used her celebrity status to help raise funds for the 2010 Haiti earthquake victims and has performed charity work to raise AIDS awareness.
Clearly, Naomi's remarks go way beyond taking a cheap shot at a Kardashian, but for her sake, let's just hope Kanye West doesn't name-check her in one of his infamous, ill-timed rants.
