Turns out, Kim was on to something. Well, there is the obvious, the fact that the entire world was waiting to see that photo and it was absolutely perfect, but the filter might have played a part, too.
According to a new study from Yahoo Labs and Georgia Tech, picking the right filter is imperative if you want to maximize your likes. Apparently, adding a filter makes more people engage with your photo and picking the right filter can help you score more likes. Check out this filter/no filter situation below and try to tell us you wouldn't be hittin' the heart on that filtered sky.
Sorry #nofilter fans, we still love you, though.
The study focused on Flickr (which is owned by Yahoo) and of the 7.6 million pics that were analyzed, more than half were uploaded to Instagram. Their results showed that filtered photos are 21% more likely to be viewed and 45% more likely to be commented on.
All right, so now which filter should you use? They found that filters that increase contrast and correct exposure can increase engagement and the filters with warmer color temperatures are more engaging than cooler ones.
