Caitlyn Jenner's Critics Petition to Have Her Gold Medal Taken Away

Caitlyn Jenner lived her life as Bruce Jenner for 65 years and in that 65 years, she accomplished some pretty incredible things, like becoming an Olympic hero when she won the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympics.

On June 1, the day that Caitlyn's Vanity Fair cover was released and the world got to meet her for the first time, a petition was started to strip her gold medal from her.

"Dear International Olympic Committee," the petition begins. "It has recently come to light that gold medalist Bruce Jenner is in fact transgender, and therefore, identifies as a woman. We congratulate Ms. Jenner on these new developments and wish her the best."

"However, this creates somewhat of a problem as Ms. Jenner (as talented as she is) claims that she has always believed herself to be truly female, and therefore, was in violation of committee rules regarding women competing in men's sports and vice versa," it continues.

The letter goes on to explain why they think the International Olympic Committee should consider revoking her victory and then asking Caitlyn herself to hand over the medal. "We urge Ms. Jenner to support the transgender community by giving up the medals earned by competing against the wrong gender," the petition concludes. "Thank you, and congratulations to Ms. Jenner for her courage! #givebackthegold."

As of Thursday morning, the petition had 10,000 signatures.
