Residents who live on Bruce Jenner Lane in East El Paso, Texas aren't sure if they should change their street name or leave it the way it is.

The neighborhood has many other street names that pay homage to elite athletes, including Frank Shorter Lane, Jim Ryan Lane, Don Meredith Lane and Bruce Jenner Lane, but is continuing to call their street Bruce Jenner Lane disrespectful to Caitlyn?

The residents are torn on whether or not they should change the name of Bruce Jenner Lane to Caitlyn Jenner Lane now that she has asked people to call her Caitlyn. Some residents feel that it would be disrespectful NOT to change the street name, while others feel that since Bruce Jenner won the Olympic gold medal, it is still paying homage to the Olympian's achievements.

The street has been Bruce Jenner Lane since 1983 and changing the name could potentially create problems for mail that is addressed to that street if it is changed to Caitlyn Jenner Lane, but we have to believe the Post Office could put something in place that fixes that potential problem, since they're able to forward people's mail to a new address when they move.

Ramon Hererra with the City of El Paso explained (video below) that changing a street name isn't as simple as it sounds. "The only way a street can be renamed is through council action...there has to be a council decision," he explains. He also says that they rarely receive requests to change street names and it's even more rare for it to actually happen.
