Whether you saw it on Twitter (even some celebs really bummed us out) or just heard people saying things that stemmed from a lack of understanding, it's been disappointing on a lot of levels.
As far as these kids are concerned, though, it's actually a very simple matter: If you are uncomfortable, do what makes you comfortable.
In this video from SheKnows, kids were shown pictures of Bruce Jenner from the past and then pics of Caitlyn in the present and were told that it was the same person.
"Oh, well I guess that's how she is, that's fine," one quickly concluded. "Who she wants to be is who she should be," another girl pointed out. Even if they're too young to understand all that went into Caitlyn's decision and her transition, they get it. Plain and simple.
The kids were then shown mean tweets that had been posted about Caitlyn. A wave of shock and disappointment swept across their faces.
"I think they're just scared of change," one boy observed. "And I think they just want everything to stay the same because they just don't know how to handle it."
He also added this priceless takeaway: "I think it's important to be yourself, because if you're not yourself, then who are you?"
Truth: Kids are a lot smarter than anybody gives them credit for. Further proof: Listen carefully when they're first shown pics of Caitlyn, not knowing who she is, and they're asked to describe her. "Happy" comes up more than once.
They don't even realize how long she's been waiting to feel that happiness, but she finally does and we couldn't be happier for her.
I'm so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can't wait for you to get to know her/me.— Caitlyn Jenner (@Caitlyn_Jenner) June 1, 2015
