Makeup aficionados have been hip to strobing for a while now. When the art of contouring becomes too time consuming and product heavy, strobing is the next best thing. Let's face it, most of us don't have the time, energy and skills to contour our faces à la Kim Kardashian
everyday, so this new and growing trend is all the rave.
Now you may be asking yourself, what the heck is strobing?! We thought you'd never ask. We chatted with beauty god Tomy Rivero
, makeup artist to top models like Dorota Kullova
and Arlenis Sosa
, to get the 411 on all things strobing.
WTF is strobing?
"Strobing" is a highlighting technique used to contour the face without dark powders or creams.
OK, should I break up with contouring and start a mad love affair with strobing? Aka, what's the difference?
The thought is that highlighting the higher planes of the face will give you a more natural contour effect without the harsh look of doing a full contour regime with highlights and shadows. It's different because usually you can use a lot less product and achieve a subtle effect that gives you a slightly more defined frame.
But there have to be some pros and cons to strobing, right?
I don't know that you can go pro/cons on this, but I would say that girls should watch out for over-highlighting and be aware of placement. It can turn into looking like you are really REALLY hot and sweaty instead of a glam glow.
Any products we need in order to be experts in strobing?
Cream highlighters are best for this! I Love Nars Copacabana
or Josie Maran Argan Illuminator
