Before the NSFW "Bitch Better Have My Money" video debuted, 25-year-old artist Sanam was "hella normal," living in Seattle and working in a plant store, she told Vice. Then, Rihanna stepped in and changed her life.
Sanam never had any experience acting - not even in music videos - but three months ago, she got an Instagram message notifying her that @badgirlriri was following her (we would die). Days after that, the pop star DMed her asking if she would collaborate on a project she was working on. Apparently, Rihanna loved a selfie Sanam posted and wanted to cast her in the "BBHMM" video.
"'Hey, I have this idea I want to run by you,' Sanam said Rihanna wrote. 'I think you're so f**king rare. Let me know if you're interested.' I had no idea what she was talking about. I was just freaking out, because Rihanna is messaging me on Instagram, telling me that she thinks I'm cool.'"
Then, she got a message from someone who worked for the production company, saying, "We want to put you in Rihanna's video! Send us an email or give us a call." Sanam thought this all was a joke at first, but by the end of that day (after she had gone back and forth making sure it was legit), the production company told her they got confirmation from Rihanna to cast her in the video and wanted to fly her out the next day.
Rihanna later told Sanam she found her on her Explore page on Instagram (!). "I just thought you were so cool, and I was like, I don't know if I should message her or not. I don't know if she's going to be down," Rhi told her. "I'm just sitting there, like, "Are you crazy? How could you be nervous to message me?"
Sanam said Rihanna was "so sweet," and showered them with compliments when she and the other cast members got there. "She is so f**king real and down-to-earth, which is the corniest thing to say about a famous person, but she really is." This whole story is like reason number 55,000 why we love Rihanna.
Excuse us while we go snap a million selfies for the Gram.
