Two women are trying to ease some of that pain and change the way we look at tampons with their new company LOLA, which produces 100 percent hypoallergenic cotton feminine care with no additives or dyes. As a bonus, their products are also delivered in customizable shipments right to you (This has #BUILTBYGIRLS written all over it).
According to the company's founders, Jordana Kier and Alex Friedman, the tampons women generally use are a blend of the artificial fibers rayon and polyester, which are cheaper to manufacture than cotton. LOLA tampons, however, are made from 100 percent cotton, which means they're 100 percent natural and biodegradable. The stitching is also different in their tampons , which are designed to expand sideways instead of lengthwise for improved absorption and comfort.
LOLA tampons come in an assortment of 18 light, regular and super tampons, and you can choose how many boxes you want and select how often you want the shipments to come. Those shipments (i.e. your subscription) can also be canceled or modified at any time.
As for the inspiration behind their company, the duo met back in college, where Alex was in an organization that stocked campus bathrooms with tampons (so, clearly, she knows a thing or two). One day, Jordana – in a desperate situation – grabbed a few tampons in the dining hall bathroom, saying a silent thanks to the mystery person who put them there (Alex and her crew).
They eventually met, formed a friendship and started LOLA because they wanted more effective feminine product for themselves, their friends and women everywhere.
"If we care about what's in the food we eat and the beauty products we use, this shouldn't be any different," they said. "Just as our standards have changed, isn't it time our tampons evolved, too?" Past time. Sending you a virtual round of applause ladies!
