Woman Runs Marathon Without Tampon to Raise Awareness, Make Statement

There are a lot of ways to raise awareness for an important cause – but one woman ran the London Marathon earlier this year without wearing a tampon to shed light on a serious issue.

Check out Kiran Gandhi, who says she ran the marathon while having her period – free-bleeding, if you will - to raise awareness about women who don't have access to feminine products and to remove the stigma of periods. It worked (though the story is just getting picked up now, some months after the marathon).

She explained on her website, "I ran with blood dripping down my legs for sisters who don't have access to tampons and sisters who, despite cramping and pain, hide it away and pretend like it doesn't exist. I ran to say, it does exist, and we overcome it every day."

People are pretty divided on Kiran's decision to free bleed for the race, but we've got crazy respect for her efforts.
