Actress Winona Ryder announced some major news on Late Night With Seth Meyers, and if you're a fan of Tim Burton's darkly comedic movies, it will surely make you scream. Winona officially confirmed a sequel to Beetlejuice and announced that she would be reprising the iconic role she took on as a teenager in 1988. How sweet is that?
Winona has done a ton of movies since working on supernatural cult flick Beetlejuice, but she told the talk show host that it's still something that she gets recognition for - even in airports! She admitted that she sometimes gets held up at the airport security line until she says "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice" - just as her character Lydia would say to summon Michael Keaton's devious ghoul. With the sequel in the works, I can only imagine that Winona will be asked to repeat this catchphrase ad nauseum - not like she minds all that much, of course.
Personally, I'm excited to see that Beetlejuice is getting a sequel as opposed to a remake or a reboot. So many movie properties are being rebooted into entirely new works and losing their original storylines and iconic characters. It will be fun to see a new story unfold in this universe that features the very same things that worked in the original Beetlejuice. I can't wait to see what this team has in store.
