Man Dies at Amusement Park While Trying to Retrieve Lost Cell Phone
An Ohio man lost his life on August 16 when he was struck by a roller coaster while trying to retrieve his lost wallet and cell phone.
During his search for the lost items at the Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio, the man entered a restricted area and was struck by the Raptor roller coaster (pictured above).
The park confirmed the incident on their official Facebook page, writing, "At approximately 5 p.m., a guest entered a restricted, fenced area of the Raptor roller coaster and was struck by the ride. Park safety officials responded immediately to the situation. Unfortunately the guest has passed away. Local authorities are on the scene conducting an investigation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time."
The victim has been identified as 45-year-old James Young, and according to reports, he had just finished riding the Raptor when he realized the items were missing. He then hopped a fence into a restricted area to try to retrieve them and was tragically struck by one of the train cars. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Erie County coroner.
Authorities say that no one else was injured in the incident and the park has since re-opened the ride.
Our thoughts go out to James' family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
