It's tough to recall a time Zac Efron wasn't in shape (seriously we tried), but the chiseled star did admit he had to drop a few pounds for his upcoming film We Are Your Friends.
The director of the film, Catfish's Max Joseph, gave the hottie a big hint that he needed to switch up his physique, with Zac recalling what went down for E! News. "Max just said, 'Hey dude, look at these guys,' and he just showed me a bunch of pictures and I'm like, 'Um, clearly I should...that's not who I am at this moment," he said with a laugh. "And so I just trimmed my diet."
Zac's character, Cole, is not only a DJ, but also a runner, so the actor went running "every day" to get ready for the film. Although he fared well with that during shooting, by the end of the film it took a toll on his body.
"I ran every day, more or less. I just stopped lifting weights," he continued. "At the end of the movie I had like shin splints, my knees hurt, it was gnarly...running is hard," he said with a laugh.
Yikes! We're glad Zac is okay now – and we imagine hitting the gym even harder for his upcoming Baywatch flick. In the meantime, We Are Your Friends hits theaters August 28.
