Well, Simon did give some inside perspective – mainly that the guys were seriously approaching burnout.
In an interview with media at The X Factor press launch, Simon confirmed to Digital Spy, "I've known for months that they wanted to take a break." He added, "They haven't announced an official break-up because I don't think they're quite sure what they want to do yet, other than have some time off."
Um...did he just say something about the possibility of a breakup? We are plugging our ears and tuning that out completely, tyvm. La-la-la-la-la-la-la, we can't hear you.
Simon did reveal that the guys have had a "grueling" scheduling over the last five years, noting, "They would have burned themselves out."
He also assured that the decision was completely theirs to make, explaining, "I would say, 'Tell me what you want to do and we'll support you either way.'"
Simon didn't, however, have any timeline on when they'll be done with that break in the action, explaining: "So I don't think you have almost like a master plan, other than knowing that any time they came back together, I think the fans would still support them. I think people would still go to their concerts. It's a high class problem."
