He dropped the ring. In the ocean.
Nerves lead to sweaty hands, which lead to slippery grips on a ring...add the ocean beneath a dock and well, he didn't stand a chance.
Oh man, we feel for him in the biggest way.
Matthew Picca planned to pop the question to girlfriend Kayla Harrity while on vacation in Southport, North Carolina, making arrangements to propose in front of their families at a bar – on a dock. Over the water.
Kayla told WBTV, "I turned around and he was getting down on one knee. As he opened the ring box, the ring fell out of the box and fell through the cracks on the deck and into the water. I didn't even get to see it before it dropped."
He never even got to ask her the question, poor guy.
There is a happy ending though: the ring was recovered and this couple have the best (worst?) proposal story ever.
Kayla said, "After 10 flashlights, five pairs of goggles and over 1.5 hours of searching in the water, the ring was found!"
Ring in hand (firmly, this time, we're betting), Matthew was able to propose, but the scene probably wasn't quite what he had in mind.
Kayla explained, "It was the best feeling in the world. My fiancé, soaking wet, smelling like salty, fishing water, proceeded to get down on one knee and put the beautiful ring on my finger!"
