Way back when there was a toy called a Tamagotchi, and it was the coolest thing ever. Tamagotchis were an egg-shaped toy that you had to take care of on a consistent basis, otherwise it would "die". Ahead of it's time, Tamagotchi's had users addicted to keeping their "pet" alive.

New fitness app Tep has taken this concept and applied it to its tool, having an adorable giraffe as its mascot and what holds you accountable to your workouts. After selecting your workout, the app tracks your distance, time, and pace, complete with feedback. Yes, your giraffe will silently judge you if you're caught slacking.

Not to crowd the fitness app market, TechCrunch reports that Tep integrates with your Fitbit or Jawbone device so you can share your progress with friends. The value of the app lies in its accountability, rewarding your for your progress. You receive coins to "feed" your giraffe once you hit a fitness goal—which was the main jam of the Tamagotchi back in the day.

Download Tep for your iPhone, Android, or Windows device, and check out this throwback-tastic Tamagotchi commercial from the '90s. #HerOverallsTho
