Ellen DeGeneres Partners With Gap to Empower Girls
GapKids x ED is the new kids clothing collection released by Gap and Ellen DeGeneres. It encourages young girls to embrace their own individuality and uniqueness. The campaign features a group of girls: Alexey, a fierce drummer; the Pink Helmet Posse, three brave and daring skateboarders; Torrae, an engineer who has created a prosthetic arm; and Asia, a young entrepreneur. These are "girls who know being a girl means being anything you want" and are introduced on the GapKids x ED page.
In an interview with Vogue, Ellen revealed that she partnered with Gap because she felt that Gap shared similar values with her, "to be true to who you are and to wear cute pants." She also mentioned, "I know from my own experience that nothing makes you feel better than being who you are and celebrating what makes you unique."
The campaign is not just for girls, as Ellen says, "I think if we shine a light on real girls doing incredible things, that'll encourage other girls and boys to do incredible things, and that'll encourage even more people to do incredible things, and eventually the world will be a more incredibler place." Ellen believes that selfies of kids wearing the clothing will help spread the message, hoping to "break the internet" again, like she did with the famous selfie taken at the Oscars.
The collection features cute and empowering clothing for kids to wear, with messages such as:
"And though she be but little she is fierce" from William Shakespeare. "Be your own hero," "You better believe it" and other empowering words like "brave," "epic," and "creative."
There's also customizable clothing and accessories where kids can express themselves and which way by writing on them or by using patch sets which are also part of the clothing line.
