The September issues have hit news stands, NYFW is in full swing and we're consuming pumpkin spice lattes left and right - at this point it's pretty safe to say fall, a.k.a fashion's fave season, is finally in full swing. The look we're most excited about rocking as the temperatures start to drop? Layers - and lots of them. This season, we're taking our layers game to new levels - dresses over pants, knits on knits - the possibilities are endless!

1. Retro Blouse + Overall Dress

Allow us to introduce you to your new go-to look for those "I have nothing to wear!" days. Fall's trendiest blouse style ($53.85, Mango) adds a retro, feminine edge under a utilitarian leather dress ($49.90, Zara) - and totally makes for an outfit that looks straight off the Saint Laurent runway. Lace up ankle booties ($24.99, Zulily) with a low heel are polished but still practical - and this edgy, studded bucket bag ($49.99, Stylemoi) is totally #PurseGoals. When it comes to jewelry for this look, less is more - minimalist stacking rings ($9.99, Kohls) are the perfect touch!

2. Knit Turtleneck + Knit Crop

Thought you'd have to put away that crop top post-Labor Day? Think again! A knit crop top ($14.17, Romwe) looks cool and unexpected over a neutral turtleneck sweater ($29.90, Uniqlo). Pair your layers with a patchwork button-front skirt ($75.57, New Look) in basic black and studded flats ($44.79, ASOS). Add a crossbody ($26.99, Target) in a camel hue for carrying your essentials. If we had to guess, we'd say this is an elegant-meets-edgy look Alexa Chung would totally approve of.

3. Dress + Pants + Leather Jacket

Tights may have been our go-to pieces to grab from our closets to keep wearing dresses into the cooler months, but this season, try swapping them for jeans - a warmer and comfier alternative! An on-trend lace-up front dress ($75, Topshop) looks amazing worn over straight leg jeans with a destroyed hem ($49.90, Zara). Cropped jeans are the perfect opportunity to show off a pair of statement shoes - and we're obsessed with lace-up flats ($45, Nordstrom) this season. Top off the look with a classic leather jacket ($69.90, Zara) and a fun pom pom beanie ($33, Accessorize)!
