In December 2013, Lady Gaga did an interview with Howard Stern in which she confessed that she was raped as a teen. Speaking out about such a painful incident was a huge show of bravery on her part, but now the singer's gone one step further with the release of her music video for "Til it Happens to You."

The emotional stars Nikki Reed and follows the stories of several rape survivors who each cope with the aftermath of their attacks in different manners. But ultimately, the "Til it Happens to You" video serves as a visual form of encouragement and compassion as each one of the survivors connect with those who share their experiences and become more empowered.

On Twitter, Lady Gaga dedicated the song and video to "people all over the world who suffer from painful life experiences." She continued, "We hope u feel our love&solidarity through the song & perhaps find some peace in knowing u r not alone through this film ."

On Friday, she also announced plans for the proceeds of the song: The video has been met with an overwhelming response, including celebrities who have praised Gaga's message: While the video is certainly difficult to watch, we applaud Gaga's openness and her efforts to provide a voice for rape survivors who may not feel strong enough to use their own.
