According to People, police responded to a medical emergency at the family's Maryland home Thursday, and Caleb was transferred to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police do not suspect foul play.
Following his death, his mom, Katie, revealed the news in an Instagram post Friday, writing, "Yesterday at 7:08PM Caleb Logan Bratayley passed away of natural causes. This has come as a shock to all of us. Words cannot describe how much we will miss him. His incredibly funny, loving and wonderful spirit made us all fall in love with him as a YouTuber, friend, brother and son. We know you tune in to watch each day and eagerly anticipate new videos, but ask that you bear with us while we deal with this tragedy as a family. Please help us honor our, baked potato."
As the news made it's way around the web and on the media, fans were shocked and confused by how such a young person could die suddenly from natural causes. We can't imagine what his family is going through right now, but in the midst of their grief, Katie still managed to address just that in another post to fans on the social networking site Monday.
"Caleb's death has raised many questions about how and why this could happen to a seemingly healthy boy," she wrote. "Sadly, tests have confirmed today that Caleb passed away from an undetected medical condition. We'll have more definitive answers in the coming weeks but ask that you help us celebrate his life instead of focus on his death. Due to an outpouring of support and people's hope to be part of his memorial, we have decided to live-stream the ceremony tomorrow at 8pm EDT. Additional information below. Thank you for all your kindness during this difficult time. Find the live-stream at:
Periscope = @bratayley; Facebook = Facebook.com/bratayley."
The Bratayleys also posted the last video they made with Caleb on their YouTube channel, in which Caleb revealed what he would ask his "future self" if he was given one question. "Is Taco Bell still around?," he jokingly asked, later asking "what I'd really ask though...are there any new sports?"
At the end of the video a message read, "unfortunately Caleb passed away the day after we made this video. He will never get to meet his future self. None of us will and we are very sad because he would have been great. Please kiss your kids and tell them that you love them everyday. You never know what day will be their last.
Simply heartbreaking. We will definitely keep the family in our thoughts and prayers.
