In an interview for Billboard magazine's Oct. 17 issue, Sel broke her silence on that rumored lupus diagnosis. She dropped a bigger bombshell than that, too. She revealed she went through chemotherapy.
"I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke," she told the magazine of her little break a few months ago.
Remember when she had to stop her tour? There was all kinds of speculation as to what was keeping her away.
"I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're assholes.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again," she recalled.
She also explained to Billboard that she's been channeling her frustrations and anger into the music, and is ready to make this all about her.
"I'm so f**king nice to everybody, and everyone is so vile to me. I've been working since I was 7. I've been a UNICEF ambassador since I was 17. It's so disappointing that I've become a tabloid story," she said.
She doesn't credit any boo as her driving force for her new, upcoming album, though. "The hate motivated me... This is my time. I've deserved this. I earned it. This is all me."
